Following on a most successful paediatric palliative care day at the 16th EAPC World Congress in Berlin in May 2019, there is an entire day dedicated to research in paediatric palliative care at the 11th EAPC World Research Congress in Palermo on Thursday 14th May.

This is an unprecedented opportunity to share your work not only with colleagues in the world of children’s palliative care, but also with colleagues in adult palliative care.

Putting Research into Practice

The theme for the day is Putting Research into Practice, focusing on four areas in paediatric palliative care research of immediate concern to clinicians:

  • Advance Care Planning.
  • Communication.
  • Interventions in Pain and Symptom Management.
  • Psychosocial Interventions.

The day is divided into four ninety-minute sessions. Each session will begin with an invited talk followed by oral presentations selected from submitted abstracts.

  • Myra Bluebond-Langner (University College London – Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, Louis Dundas Centre, UK) on Communication
  • Joanne Wolfe (Boston Children’s Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute Harvard University, US) on Interventions in Pain and Symptom Management 
  • Monika Fuehrer (University of Munich, Dr van Hauer Children’s Hospital, Germany) on Psychosocial interventions.

These speakers will consider not only the state of the science in each of these areas, but also what is ready to put into practice right now in the way of tools, interventions and guidance in each of these critical areas of paediatric palliative care.
